| Biochemical Oxygen Demand |
Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) is a measurement of water quality. BOD is the amount of oxygen consumed by microorganisms in the decomposition of organic matter within water from sources such as streams, lakes and wastewater effluents. BOD is not a precise quantitative test, although it is widely used as an indication of the quality of water and can be used as a gauge of the effectiveness of wastewater treatment plants. BOD is listed as a conventional pollutant in the U.S. Clean Water Act. |
